The period is the duration of one cycle in a repeating event, so the period is the reciprocal of the frequency. A radio transmission will have the spectrum of sound (0-20kHz) plus that tuned frequency, so if you tune to 99.1MHz, your radio actually looks for frequencies from 99,100,000 Hz up to 99,120,000 Hz. Then the receiver basically subtracts the 99.1 MHz and you're left with audible sound frequencies. But you can have your girlfriend go to the hearing doctor, and ask for earplugs that filter high freq. noise. A co worker has the same problem. This is what she had to do.
